Music and Choir
Music is very much at the heart of the worshipping life of our churches.
At Dedham Parish Church a long standing choral tradition continues, with a loyal choir consisting of adults and junior members, who meet weekly in term time on Thursday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.15/30pm, to prepare for our weekly morning and evening services across the benefice, as well as at weddings and occasional funeral services. New members are always welcome.
Our musicians and singers also help to lead us at our less formal services: Rise 'n Shine and Revive@5.
At Dedham we are fortunate to have a fine but aged Hill pipe organ, which is coming up to a major refurb/refit, after over 40 years of service, with all options being explored. The Director of Music is a graduate in Christian Liturgical Music, and is responsible for the choice of music across a range of services, designed to appeal and minister to a wide variety of service types and styles, from Book of Common Prayer Matins and Evensong to contemporary, less formal types of worship, such as our Rise ‘n Sine & Revive@5 services. As a local freelance music teacher, he works closely with Dedham C of E Primary School, providing individual piano tuition, but also playing for assemblies, and accompanying the school choirs, both in church and school venues. Junior choir members past and present are drawn from the local school.
Holding fast to the letter of St.Paul to the Colossian church, we aim to sing ‘Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in our hearts. And whatever (we) do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him’.
